Work: Pufferfish Displays

"An enjoyable project which left us with the website we always wanted."

The challenge

Pufferfish's wiki-powered website was a quick fix when they were working on their proof-of-concept. Four years later, the business had grown but their online presence lacked the ability to support their products and brand.

They came to us as they wanted guidance on developing their new website and identity. Mid-way through the project they received news that they were going to be featured in Wired Magazine UK. This meant we had to ensure that their new website was ready to capitalise on this exposure.

Our approach

Discover

We helped Pufferfish Displays prioritise their objectives for their new website. Then we provided a framework that allowed them to audit all of their existing website content.

Define

Once the audit was complete we mentored their in-house team through the content strategy and interface design process. Within a matter of weeks they had a revised site map and signed-off screen designs ready for coding.

Deliver

Within a week we had developed a highly customised open source content management system. The new set-up simplified their publishing process by enforcing consistency across all of the dynamic content types they wished to publish. After a number of last minute additions, some required usability enhancements and a comprehensive quality assurance process we were ready for deployment.

Finally we made sure an affordable short-term server scaling solution was in place. The result, not a single user experienced an issue despite a substantial surge in traffic from Wired and Pufferfish now have a website they are truly proud of.

The results

"Francois and Esther have been great to work with throughout the project, helping ensure that we achieved much more than a mere facelift for the site.

We had long harboured strong ideas about how our new site would look, but Border Crossing Media's guidance helped ensure that we were better able to balance the visual aesthetics with a clear information architecture and attention to usability. T... Read more
